RIP Heidi SweetFace 1997-2011

My Heidi Sweetface was put to sleep this morning and I cannot even begin to express my sadness. She was a sweet dog who loved me, loved visitors, loved treats and kept me company each day. She turned 14 on February 1, 2011 and her age started to show. Her back legs were stiff, she was deaf but there was always that House Guard Heidi when a cat would sashshay past our patio window. Last night was the night that sweet Heidi's body began to say "let me go, I will be fine". I am not fine. No no no, I am not fine.

Oh Carol! I'm so so sorry. I know how much Heidi meant to you and how hard it was for you to let her go. She knows you made a loving decision for her and is smiling down from doggie heaven. We will all remember her sweet face. Huge hugs! xxD

I am so sorry for your loss. I know they are family members of ours.

I love this poem so I wanted to share it with you...

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Our pets are so much part of our lives. More than family, they love ya unconditionally and there's no replacement for that. Sincerely sorry for your loss.

Carole, I was touched by your comment on my blog and I wanted to share my condolences over your loss of your beloved Heidi. Losing a beloved pet (family member) is very difficult. I lost two of my cats within 2 months of each other in June and July 2011 and I am still thinking of Roman and Shelby all the time. Roman was 11 1/2 and acquired the cat immune disease called FIP which has no cure or prevention and we had to put him to sleep since treatments weren't working. And sweet little Shelby died unexpectedly at 1 year of age and it's still a mystery. We are not sure if it was a stroke or aneurysm. We petted him goodnight and the next morning, he was gone from this world looking like he was just napping. It has been very painful with Roman and Shelby's loss but with my other 3 cats they have helped ease the sorrow. Time does heal, it just doesn't seem like it at the time.
